#Launch America

It is a moment of proud for the Americans as after 9 years the American astronauts are launched from American soil, before this launch they were dependent on Russian Soyuz rocket. So Americans named this event as Launch America event.

Launch America is being seen as the kick-start of the the new era of America’s space missions and also for private companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic and lot more, who had been shifting their focus on commercial applications of space research making the era of commercial space race.

NASA with a new look!

A really interesting thing is that NASA is back with the "worm" logo. It was Nasa's older logo, known for it's a simpler and sleek design. Now at the launch of Nasa's SpaceX crew demo-2 from crew Dragon spacecraft signifies the modern era of human spaceflight and the excitement of the people related to space flights.

About the Dragon spacecraft

Dragon is a spacecraft developed by SpaceX. It can carry cargo or astronauts to the International Space Station. It is capable of carrying up to 7 passengers to and from Earth orbit. The Dragon spacecraft uses the Draco thrusters as its thrust source and to orient the spacecraft during the mission and also to some manoeuvres, adjustments, and altitude control. It can capable of generating 90 pounds of thrust in space. Dragon uses 16 such Draco engines, generating a total 400N thrust in vacuum of space.
Upon re-entry to reduce the velocity of decent, it uses two drogue parachutes and four main parachutes for further deceleration, before landing.

Importance of this mission-

This mission is considered one of the milestones in the history of human space exploration as for the first time in history a private company made a spacecraft that is launched using the private rocket from American soil.
This mission is very important for SpaceX as its founder Elon Musk wants to colonize Mars. As soon as he proposed his vision to colonize Mars his company started working on the spacecraft capable of carrying humans in outer space.

About Falcon 9

The Falcon 9 is a two-staged, reusable rocket. Which is manufactured by SpaceX. Reusability allows the company to decrease the cost to ace space. This is the world's first orbital reusable rocket.
The Capacity to carry the payloads to GTO(Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit) is 8300kg, to LEO(Lower Earth Orbit) is 22800kg.

Some Quick Facts

  • It has done a total of 95 flights to this date(28/08/2020). Total of 51 landings has done.
  • It uses the merlin engine.
  • It is completely autonomous during launch and landing.
  • Its body and engine are reusable after little servicing.
